If as a business, you sign a contract or expect to make over £90,000 in a single 30-day period, you must register for VAT immediately.
This is the default VAT method. You record VAT on sales and purchases based on the date of the invoice, regardless of when the customer pays you.
The VAT Cash Accounting Scheme allows eligible businesses to pay and reclaim VAT based on when money changes hands rather than the date of the invoice.
The UK VAT Flat Rate Scheme allows small businesses to pay a fixed percentage of their gross turnover to HMRC instead of calculating individual amounts of VAT on every sale and purchase.
Rather than filing four quarterly VAT returns, you file only one return per year. You make advance payments towards your estimated bill throughout the year.
These schemes apply only to specific industries selling second-hand goods, art, antiques, or collectibles.
